The System Administrator will be responsible for maintaining the technical infrastructure as required to meet business needs. This would include proactive software updates and patching as well as equipment and software refresh / maintenance. In addition, this position is responsible to support high level as well as departmental projects. A System Administrator is also responsible for providing first level support and troubleshooting for incidents reported by system monitoring, change requests, users support tickets or networking with IT peers. It will be necessary to offer afterhours support as needed, especially when on-call rotation is assigned

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participate in the development and implementation of system policies and standard practices to ensure effective and consistent operations all systems as well as safeguard information resources
• Contribute to organizational policy with regard to quality standards and strategic planning
• Monitor and maintain backup systems and develop disaster recovery plans
• Implement security procedures and/or policies concerning data/systems access and virus prevention
• Configure and implement simple I.T. technology systems
• Install system software and hardware for operating systems, applications and servers including, but not limited to, e-mail systems, file and print systems, virus defense, web services and remote access
• Purchas hardware and software
• Perform server hardware and server software maintenance functions such as firmware upgrades, installing software service packs and configuring enhancements
• Maintain system security including operating system security patches
• Perform system administration functions such as Active Directory maintenance, DNS changes, granting server permissions, server log management, email system administration, print queue management, web server support
• Maintain standardization and documentation of technology and processes
• Monitor performance, capacity and operational statistics for operating systems, applications and servers including e-mail systems, file and print systems, virus defense, web services and remote access
• Upgrade server and infrastructure hardware based on hardware life cycle policy
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems with system configurations and hardware
• Provide escalation support for the Service Desk and Desktop Support Teams
• Provide technical support and maintenance of I.T. systems
• Will serve as the project lead on simple technical projects based on the business plan
• Develop and submit budget proposals and funding requests

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• 3 years in computer systems administration, hardware and software troubleshooting and repair, and program development are desired
• Demonstration of increased responsibility with computer client/server systems required; Windows Server 2000/2003 experience required. Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 experience desired
• Advanced skills with Microsoft computer applications packages required
• Managed switch and router configuration desired
• VOIP administration desired

Education/Experience:

• Associates Degree required
• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (information systems, computer science, engineering, etc.) preferred
• Certification as a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) Server Administrator or Microsoft equivalent is preferred
• System and application support with Microsoft required
• Minimum one year in departmental application support and administration (e.g., Web applications, administration of .Net Applications and SQL/Oracle based applications)
• Vendor training in application/system technologies
• Strong professional verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with little supervision and within changing priorities
• Proficiency in Business Acumen
